On Saturday, April 28th during the Business Meeting at the 2018 District Spring Conference one of the items on the agenda is the election of the 2018-2019 District Officers. Below are details about each of the nominated candidates.

District Director Candidate
Evelyn Woolridge, DTM
Evelyn Woolridge is currently the 2017-2018 District One Program Quality Director and is a retired Manager of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with 40 years of federal service with 22 of those years successfully leading teams, staffs, and organizations.
During her federal career, she received dozens of awards and recognitions including the two highest Department of Transportation awards which were personally presented decades apart in Washington DC by Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Doyle, and again by Secretary of Transportation, Mary Peters. In 2015 she held the honorable role as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Greater Los Angeles Combined Federal Campaign overseeing a charitable federal campaign raising 4.5 million dollars solicited by nearly 200,000 federal employees in California.
Evelyn is a charter member of 20 years with “Planetalkers” and the last six years with “Aerospace” club. She has been instrumental in chartering 40 clubs over her Toastmasters journey. She has successfully sponsored four clubs, mentored two clubs, and coached one club. In Toastmasters some of her more noteworthy recognition has been receiving numerous Toastmaster Spark Plug awards, the District 1 Toastmaster of the Year, 2011-2012, Roy D. Graham, Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014, and District 1 Mentor of the Year, 2015-2016.
Evelyn’s mantra has always been serving members to reach their highest potential and assisting them through a fun and enlightened Toastmasters journey. Evelyn has the experience, qualifications, and commitment to fulfill the District Director position with the District vision “Speak, Lead, and Serve as ONE Team”.
Club Growth Director Candidate
Brad Stauffer, DTM
Brad Stauffer brings 15 years of Toastmasters experience, including four years serving District 1 in various roles. As a senior publishing executive, for over 25 years, Brad has directed audience development and marketing, operations, and events, as well as finance and IT. Today, Brad is Vice President, Creative and Product Development, at BrownTrout Publishing, El Segundo.
Brad is a 15-year member, and current President, of Century City Toastmasters, which has been President’s Distinguished for at least 16 years. He is also Sponsor/Founder, and President of The Meaning Institute Toastmasters, the only online-based club in District 1. Brad is currently Assistant Division B Director, Program Quality, and was Division B Director, 2016-17, Distinguished. He was Assistant Division B Director, Club Growth, 2015-16, and active on the Club Growth team. Brad is 2015-16 Toastmaster of the Year.
In addition to his corporate experience, Brad was also an entrepreneur for seven years, launching and running his own branding and marketing business. He is a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach through the Coaches Training Institute.
“My Toastmasters leadership experience, especially contributing at the Division and District levels, has transformed who I am as a leader and communicator. As Club Growth Director, I will have the opportunity to help realize the mission of Toastmasters International, and District 1, by spreading the positive word about the effectiveness of Toastmasters, creating a direct impact on membership growth and club expansion.”
Division A Director Candidate
Steve Evans, ACG, ALB
Steve Evans is a former executive at Showtime Networks where he was a Director of National Accounts, Special Markets in Los Angeles. He was responsible for SHOWTIME sales to hotels, universities, and hospitals; and worked with DIRECTV, Time Warner and Charter Communications. Before that, he was part of the original team that launched Sundance Channel in 1996 and spent 13 years at Sundance as Vice President of Sales.
Steve began his career in broadcasting as a radio disc jockey in the Northwest and, after a series of jobs in smaller markets, he eventually hosted a morning show on KING Radio in Seattle. He also hosted several television shows on KING TV, including “Living the Good Life” and “The Great American Game”. He still broadcasts a weekly movie report as “Steve the Movie Guy” for CRN Digital Talk, a national radio network. He is also a member of SAG/AFTRA and the Television Academy.
Steve has always been fascinated by public speaking, the old-fashioned kind, in front of a live audience. He has been a member of Toastmasters since 2008 and is currently an Advanced Communicator Gold, Advanced Leader Bronze and is serving as Area Director for Area A3. He is excited about the opportunity to serve as Division Director for Division A next term and help develop great speakers and leaders through the Toastmasters program.

Division E Director Candidate
Michelle King, CC
Michelle King is a Pre-Op Coordinator at Orange Coast Memorial Hospital, where she has been employed for 23 years. Michelle joined Toastmasters a little while ago to enhance her public speaking skills. She has achieved so much more.
Michelle has competed in Area speech contests and currently serves as both Club President of Lakewood Star Speakers and as Area E6 Director. As a Club President, Michelle helped grow her club from 8 to 18 members (currently Select Distinguished), and as Area Director she is leading each of her Area E6 clubs to become Distinguished or better. Toastmasters has grown her speaking and leadership skills step-by-step, more than she anticipated when she first joined. Michelle enjoys turning ideas into action and is excited to be a nominated candidate for Division E Director. Her main objective is to help all clubs in Division E achieve Presidents Distinguished. Her mission is to enlarge the Area Directors’ skills through training, support and equipping them with the tools to do the same for their clubs. Michelle believes this is the best investment we can make!
Division F Director Candidate
Janet Kemp, DTM
Janet Kemp, a School Psychologist and Commercial Real Estate Consultant, joined Vernon Bragg Toastmasters in Rialto CA, District 12, in February 2012. After moving to the Los Angeles County area, she became a member of Compton Elite Communicators in 2015, where she served as VP Education. She also joined Just Plane Language Toastmasters, serving as club President and leading the club to President’s Distinguished for the first time in its history. She is a charter member of District 1 Trailblazers and member of C.I.T.I.E.S. Toastmasters.
Janet served as Area E1 Director from 2015-2016, during which time she learned that leadership requires perseverance, enthusiasm, trustworthiness, and the ability to inspire and encourage others to accomplish set goals. In addition, she was a Coordinator in the Youth Leadership Program.
Encouraged by her husband, Ellonce Kemp, and mentor, Margaret Mitchell, Janet set high goals, worked hard, learned quickly, and received her Distinguished Toastmaster award in less than two years.
Janet’s community involvement has included feeding the homeless and issuing care packages. She is also active in her church. Additionally, Janet served as a member of the Northwest Project Area Committee where the committee collaborated with other organizations on city development projects.
As Division F Director, Janet will be committed to strengthening the Division by working with her Area Directors to build club membership through both established and innovative means, establish new clubs, promote the Distinguished Club Program, and promote Pathways.
